Tattoo Pricing & Process in Istanbul — How Cost Works at Balon Circle
Every tattoo is different, so every price is different. At Balon Circle in Nişantaşı, we don’t publish a fixed price list — instead, this page explains exactly what shapes the cost of a tattoo, walks you through our process from first message to healed skin, and shows you how to get an accurate, personalized quote.
What determines the price of a tattoo?
There’s no single “tattoo price.” The final figure is built from several factors:
- Size. Larger pieces take more time, more ink and more skill, so they sit higher on the scale.
- Detail and complexity. Two tattoos the same size can cost very differently — a clean, simple line piece is faster than a densely detailed, realistic one. Sometimes a small but intricate design takes longer than a larger, simpler one.
- Placement on the body. Areas like the ribs, neck, hands and feet are more sensitive and technically demanding, which adds time and skill.
- Color vs. black-and-grey. Color work usually takes longer because of the extra layering and blending involved.
- Custom vs. ready design. A fully custom piece includes research, sketching and mapping the artwork to your body — preparation that a ready-made design doesn’t require.
- Time in the chair. Larger or multi-session projects are planned around the hours the work realistically needs.
Why we don’t publish a fixed price list
Because of everything above, a fixed menu would be misleading. The honest answer to “how much is a tattoo?” is “it depends” — on your idea, its size, where it goes, and how detailed it is. Rather than quote a number that might not hold once we see your design and your skin, we give you a clear, tailored price in consultation, before anything is committed. This is standard practice among professional studios worldwide, and it’s the most transparent way to set expectations for both sides.
Tattoo prices in Istanbul: the bigger picture
If you’re comparing cities, it’s worth knowing the general landscape. Istanbul is widely recognized as a more affordable destination than Western European capitals, largely because the cost of living and exchange rates work in a visitor’s favor — without a drop in artistic quality. That’s a general observation about the city, not a specific quote. The most important thing is still to choose a clean, reputable studio whose portfolio you trust. (New to the city? See our guide to getting a tattoo in Istanbul.)
Our process, step by step
- Consultation. You tell us your idea and share references; we talk through size, placement, style, time and cost. This is where your personalized quote comes from.
- Design. We create or finalize your custom artwork and prepare the stencil, adjusting placement to fit your body.
- Deposit. A deposit secures your appointment and your design time (see below).
- The tattoo session. On the day, we prep the skin, place the stencil for your approval, and tattoo. Session length depends on the piece.
- Aftercare. You leave with clear written and verbal aftercare instructions, and we stay reachable for questions. As a general guide: keep it clean, use a fragrance-free, water-based (not petroleum-based) moisturizer, protect it from the sun with broad-spectrum SPF 30+, avoid tanning beds, and don’t pick at scabs. The surface usually looks healed in about 2–3 weeks, with deeper healing continuing for some weeks after. (Full details on our Aftercare page.)
Deposits & payment: how they work
A deposit is a normal, expected part of booking a tattoo — just as it is with many appointment-based services. It does three things: it compensates the artist for the design and preparation time spent before you arrive, it confirms you’re serious so the slot isn’t lost to a no-show, and it secures the specific time reserved just for you. It’s not a sign of mistrust; it’s how a professional studio runs fairly for everyone.
Our deposit policy. A deposit confirms your appointment and covers the design time we put in before your session, and it’s deducted from your final price.
Payment. We accept cash, credit card, and bank transfer (IBAN).
How to get an accurate quote
The more you tell us up front, the more accurate your quote. Please include:
- Reference images (3–5 that capture the style and feel you want)
- A description of your idea and any meaning behind it
- Approximate size (in cm)
- Placement (where on the body)
- Color or black-and-grey preference
- Your dates in Istanbul if you’re visiting, so we can plan the session
Send all of this through our request form or message us on WhatsApp, and we’ll come back to you with next steps and a personalized quote — request a quote. If you’re traveling to Istanbul, reach out before your trip so the design groundwork is ready when you arrive.

Common Questions
-
How much does a tattoo cost in Istanbul?
It depends on size, detail, placement, color, and whether the design is custom — so there's no single number. We give you a clear, personalized quote in consultation.
-
Why don't you list exact prices?
Because a fixed list can't account for the variables that actually set the cost. Quoting before we've seen your design and your skin would be misleading, so we quote in consultation instead.
-
What makes one tattoo more expensive than another?
Mainly time and skill: larger, more detailed, color, custom, and harder-to-tattoo placements all add to the cost.
-
Do you charge hourly or a flat rate?
Both models are common in the industry; the right approach depends on your piece, and we'll explain it clearly when we quote.
-
Is a deposit required?
Yes. A deposit confirms your appointment and covers design time, and it's deducted from your final price. We accept cash, credit card and bank transfer.
-
How do I get an accurate quote?
Send reference images, a description, approximate size in cm, placement, and color preference via our form or WhatsApp.
